AD to Taylor Swift: Here Are 5 Chairs Travis Kelce Can't Possibly Break

After Travis Kelce's podcast mishap, we're here to help Taylor Swift shake it off—and replace her chairs

Pop legend Taylor Swift’s friends and lovers (ahem, Travis Kelce) can’t stop breaking her chairs and wrecking her house. While recording the latest episode of his podcast, “New Heights,” Swift’s fiancé, NFL star Travis Kelce, laughed so hard that he broke one of the singer’s (likely expensive and/or antique) chairs. This comes after Zoe Kravitz revealed last summer that she and Lisa Bonet had “destroyed” Swift’s bathroom while trying to retrieve Bonet’s rogue pet snake, resulting in a ripped-apart built-in banquette, torn-up tile, and scratched walls.

The latest incident, which the “New Heights” Instagram page shared as a promo for the “dangerously funny” podcast episode, happened when Kelce leaned back a little too far in the off-screen chair, causing it to break and loudly crash to the floor while sending the poor tight end tumbling. His arms flailed before he caught himself with one hand on the floor, and his laughter briefly transformed into an expression of terror as his life (presumably) flashed before his eyes once he realized what he had done.

Taylor’s gonna kill me,” he said after surveying the damage, making his brother and co-host, Jason Kelce, howl with laughter. Looney Tunes-style comedy gold aside, Taylor Swift’s is definitely going to need some new chairs. And seeing as she and Travis are tying the knot this summer, she might want to go with something a bit sturdier, that can accommodate the burly frames of her future husband and his rambunctious friends. Put another way, Taylor Swift needs to manchild-proof her house. Perhaps we at AD could be of service?

Read on for our shortlist of hardy yet stylish seating that could withstand even the, uh, “New Heights of Manhood.”

Ligne Roset Togo Fireside Chair

It would be very, very, difficult for Kelce to break one of Michel Ducaroy’s Togo chairs. The slouchy, low-slung design comprises foam wrapped in quilted upholstery and rests directly on the floor—legs be damned. The French designer was inspired by his scrunched toothpaste tube when he got the idea for his now-iconic Togo sofas, which debuted in 1973. As a bonus, it’s already NFL star approved: Buffalo Bills linebacker Matt Milano opted for Togos as a comfy-cozy approach to midcentury style in his modernist dream house.

The Mid-Century Legend

The Womb Chair, designed by Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen in 1946, is both comfortable and industrial: it cradles its user with its sculptural form, crafted by tough fiberglass lined with cushy foam and legs of steel. The combination makes for a highly durable chair, and the physical embodiment of Swift’s 2012 track, “Safe & Sound.”

The Sturdy Seat

The Chisel Lounge Chair by HAY is a delightfully stocky option. Though it has a petite footprint, its wide, angled legs are well-suited for rowdy football players, making it a great balance for the home of Tay and Trav.

If the Togo and Womb chairs formed the sides of a Venn diagram, Willo Perron’s Bun Chair would sit in the middle. It’s big enough for two lovebirds to cuddle up together in its distinctively puckered cradle of a seat, with widely spaced metal legs providing sturdy support.

The Un-tippable Option

Eames Molded Plywood Lounge Chair Wood Base (LCW)

As designer Bethany Adams once told AD, the Lounge Chair Wood (of LCW) by Eames is “remarkably un-tippable.” The molded plywood chair was designed in 1946 and features a low seat (read: less farther to fall) and an iconic silhouette. Whichever chair Taylor picks, we're sure Travis will be enchanted.
